In France, the building sector is responsible for more than 25% of the production of greenhouse gases, the majority being related to the production of building materials. It is also responsible for 70% of national waste production, consisting of 80% of excavated inert waste (earth, rubble, concrete). The extraction of sand and gravel in the quarry also generates a large amount of waste: washing sludge (FAC). Faced with the climate emergency, it is imperative to begin major transitions by exploring the possibilities of exploiting these resources. The virtues of raw earth materials, known for millennia, and the fact of being low carbon and reversible has given it a new boom in recent years. The combination of raw earth and plant fibres has repeatedly demonstrated an increase in mechanical strength, a decrease in the density and thermal conductivity of these materials (compressed earth blocks, mortars, extruded earth, etc.). Cellulosic fibers are an abundant resource since they can come from biomass (virgin fibers) but also from recycling (recycled fibers).
