Arkema / Académie des Sciences Award 2023 for Julien Bras

Professor at Grenoble INP – Pagora, UGA / LGP2, Julien Bras received the Arkema / Académie des Sciences Chemistry Innovation Award for Sustainable Materials 2023. on October 17.
Researcher at the LGP2 - Laboratory of Process Engineering for Biorefinery, Bio-sourced Materials and Functional Printing, recognized internationally for its innovative research, Julien Bras is particularly interested in the use of cellulose and nanocellulose in the production of packaging and composites.

This prestigious award recognizes his high-level work in chemistry paving the way for innovative solutions for sustainable and responsible development. This research – which has resulted in 195 publications and 22 patents – perfectly illustrates the prospects offered by the use of structures from the plant world, in particular cellulose at all its scales. By chemically modifying nanocelluloses to provide them with new properties, the researcher and his team demonstrate that it becomes possible to substitute them for polymers of fossil origin in many applications ranging from packaging to composites.

Senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France, Julien Bras is a scientist convinced of the need for technological transfer of scientific activities as evidenced by his regular collaborations with companies, the creation in 2022 of the Cellulose Valley Industrial Excellence Chair and his contribution to the emergence of several start-ups.
