Launch of the joint laboratory with Fedrigoni

On 17 July 2025, the CNRS, Grenoble Alpes University, Grenoble INP - UGA, Agefpi, and the Fedrigoni Group, the world's leading producer of speciality papers, self-adhesive materials and RFID, officially inaugurated their joint laboratory in Grenoble.
This joint laboratory reinforces a collaboration spanning over 14 years, focused on pioneering sustainable innovation at the intersection of cellulose-based materials and printed electronics.

The initiative illustrates the growing importance of bridging academic research and industrial innovation to build the future of bio-based materials.

A Longstanding Collaboration

The relationship began in 2011 and has generated multiple innovations through internships, doctoral research, and industrial projects. In recent years, the collaboration has expanded into recyclability, eco-design, and life cycle assessment — all contributing to a more circular economy.

Ambitious Research Program

The joint lab will operate under a four-year renewable agreement and is governed by a tripartite steering committee (CNRS/UGA, Grenoble INP - UGA, and Fedrigoni). Fedrigoni’s R&D experts will work directly within the LGP2 premises, sharing equipment and driving a joint innovation roadmap.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Printed Electronics on Paper: Hybrid, flexible, eco-responsible devices (e.g., through the ongoing FLEXI-HYPE project).
  • Nanocellulose for Sustainable Packaging: Enhancing wet-molded cellulose for strength, appearance, and barrier properties; including long-term doctoral research on fiber processing and functionalization.

Through this initiative, LGP2 and Fedrigoni are affirming their shared desire to combine industrial performance and environmental responsibility, drawing on research to reduce the environmental impact of electronic devices and cut the use of fossil fuels in packaging.
