Seminar by Prof. Johanna Marcela Castaño Agudelo

Johanna Marcela Castaño Agudelo, Professor at the University of Concepción in Chile, will be giving a seminar at LGP2 on Thursday June 12, starting at 10:30 a.m., on “Chemical modification of starches for the design of biopolymeric matrices processed on an industrial scale”.
A materials engineer with a degree from the University of Antioquia (Colombia), Johanna Marcela Castaño Agudelo holds a PhD in materials engineering and science from the University of Concepción, Chile, obtained in 2012: her thesis focused on the preparation and characterization of starch-based composites from non-conventional sources for industrial applications.

In 2009, she began working in the polymer field, as a biomaterials researcher at the Technological Development Unit (UDT) of the University of Concepción: directing and formulating R&D projects, liaising with companies in the productive sector and creating a new line of elastomer research.
From 2016 to 2018, she joined the industrial sector as a senior researcher in charge of developing new products different from resin and commercializing a new material.

Since 2018, Professor in the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Concepción (Chile), she focuses on the generation of smart biomaterials for food, agricultural and medical packaging.
  • Participation in 50 R&D projects since 2009 (FONDEF, FONDEF Idea, FONDEF IT, CORFO, FIA, REDES).
  • Co-author of 40 publications and inventor of 4 national patents, she has supervised 20 undergraduate and 15 graduate theses.
  • Index H = 22
